Man Convicted of Charges Involving Sex Trafficking

A Monroe County jury has found a man guilty of sex trafficking. John Spencer, 43, also known as Smurf, was convicted of forcing three victims to sell themselves for his monetary profit from April 2015 to October 2016. Prosecutors say Spencer preyed upon the victims, supplying them with illegal drugs, food and shelter. Spencer was convicted of eight counts of sex trafficking, three counts of promoting prostitution in the second degree, one count of promoting prostitution in the third degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, three counts of assault in the third degree, two counts of robbery in the second degree, one count of unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, one count of menacing in the second degree, and one count of permitting prostitution. Spencer will be sentenced on April 18.
