New Figures from Education Department Show Increase in HS Graduation Rates

The state Education Department says the state's four-year high school graduation rate rose half a percentage point last June to 80.2 percent. That's up from 79.7 percent in June 2016. 

Among the Big 5 City school districts, the graduation rate in Rochester shot up 4.2 percent, to 51.9 percent. 

Yonkers saw a 4.5 percent gain, while New York City and Buffalo saw about a 1 point improvement. The graduation rate in Syracuse dropped half a point to 60.5 percent. 

Statewide, the graduation rate improved for black and Hispanic students, for students with disabilities
