Rochester Mother Accused of Drowning Infant; To Appear in Court

A Rochester mother who police say admitted drowning her ten-day-old baby boy in November has a court date today.

Markiya Mitchell was indicted on a second-degree murder charge after police say she left her son Jeremiah face down in 8-to 10 inches of water in a bathtub for 1- to 2 hours.

The infant was found by another family member at Mitchell's apartment on Locust Street. Mitchell also has a 7-year-old child.

She allegedly told police she heard voices telling her to harm her baby.
