Pittsford Pushing for Environmental Review of Erie Canal Project

The Town of Pittsford is going to court to block the plan by the State Power Authority to clear cut trees and vegetation along the banks of the Erie Canal.

The town wants a delay until the state can conduct an environmental review.

The Power Authority says the removal of the trees will strengthen the canal banks, but critics say it will spoil the view and hurt the quality of life. The Brighton Town Board voted last night to support Pittsford's push for an environmental review.
