Gates Man Charged Following Case of Road Rage That Became a Hate Crime

A Gates man is facing charges for what police say was a case of road rage that became a hate crime.

It happened yesterday afternoon at the Home Depot parking lot on Buffalo Road.

Gates police say Jeffrey Peters got out of his car and pointed a 9 millimeter pistol and yelled racial slur at the other driver, an African American.

Witnesses called 9-1-1, and Peters was arrested inside the store. He's charged with menacing, aggravated harassment and two weapon charges.
