Couple sentenced for kidnapping pregnant woman in Rochester

Rochester, NY- A husband and wife are heading to prison for keeping a pregnant woman captive in a Rochester home last summer.

Wednseday, Joshua Mencel was sentenced to 16-years-to-life in prison, and Jillianne Mencel received 17 years behind bars plus 5 years post supervised release.


In June and July last year the husband and wife kept a 24-year-old pregnant woman in a home at 47 Santee Street.   The woman was kept in an alarmed room and was subjected to repeated physical and mental abuse, before an anonymous 9-1-1 call was made and she was saved by the RPD. 

Joshua Mencel was convicted last month on two counts of 1st degree kidnapping, coercion, unlawful imprisonment, and 3rd degree assault.  Jillianne pleaded guilty to 2nd degree kidnapping.  

A third co-defendant, William Geer, also pleaded guilty to 2nd degree kidnapping and was sentenced to 6 years behind bars and 5 years post supervised release.
