A new report shows a 71 percent increase in opioid deaths in New York state since 2010.
The Rockefeller Institute of Government reviewed deaths related to drug overdoses and abuse in the state between 2010 and 2015. The report says the death rate from overdoses is worse in upstate and suburban communities. And it says men die at twice the rate of women.
New York State ranked 34th in national averages. Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo approved more funding for addiction treatment.
