State Watchdog Group: Judge James Piampiano Violated Judicial Ethics

The state's Commission on Judicial Conduct has censured the judge who presided over the Charlie Tan murder trial. The commission says Judge James Piampiano crossed an ethical line when he granted media interviews after ending the jury deliberations AND when he threatened a prosecutor with jail, days later, for arguing Piampiano's decision to dismiss the case and free Tan.The censure is a formal reprimand -- the most severe punishment short of removal from the bench.
