Repeat sex offender sentenced to 60 years to life

Rochester, NY- A Rochester man and level three sex offender,  is going to prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in December of 2015.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s office says yesterday, 34-year-old Antwon Smith was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison after a jury convicted him last month of three counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child and two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

At the time of the offense Smith had previously been convicted of eight sexually related offenses.

“Antwon Smith is the most dangerous type of predator preying on those in our community that are most vulnerable.  The sentence handed down by Judge Argento reflects not only the heinous nature of this crime but also the defendant’s horrendous criminal history.  It also takes into account the lifelong devastating effects that this type of abuse has on victims,” said Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck.

“This conviction and sentence would not be possible without the thorough investigation of the Irondequoit Police Department.  Judge Argento’s sentence will ensure that Smith will never be able to hurt another child again. Yesterday’s sentence may be a small step forward in the victim’s long road to recovery.”
