Man Convicted In Connection With Death of Fairport Teacher Will Get Another Trial

The man who was convicted in connection with the death of a Fairport teacher has had his conviction overturned.

Mark Scerbo had his 2013 manslaughter conviction overturned because of reported errors in the jury selection process.  

In June 2012, Heather Boyum was riding her bicycle in Penfield when Scerbo, on his motorcycle, hit her from behind, knocking her into the path of a car driven by his girlfriend Megan Merkle.  

Scerbo was sentenced to 7-and-a-half to 17 years in state prison after being convicted of manslaughter, drunk driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a a motor vehicle.
