Dozens of Cats Pulled from Perinton Home

Perinton officials have removed at least 45 cats from a house on Kreag Road.

Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna says town officials received plenty of complaints from neighbors about the stench coming from the home.

It's the same house where nearly 100 cats and dogs were taken out in January 2021, following a fire.

It's not clear yet whether the home's owners have been charged.

Statement from Town Supervisor Ciaran Hanna:

“Today, the Town of Perinton led a successful and proactive operation to address code violations and serious health and safety concerns at a residence on Kreag Road, following complaints that a large number of cats were being kept in unsafe conditions. A Town municipal search warrant was executed in partnership with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester - SPCA, Perinton Animal Control and Perinton Building & Codes.

This is the same property where a significant cat-hoarding case was discovered following a fire in 2021. While this is a challenging situation, the Town acted decisively with our partners to protect the well-being of residents, animals, and the surrounding neighborhood. With the assistance of the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, the cats are being removed from the residence and are now receiving the veterinary care they need. The total number of cats is not yet known, as this remains an active operation.

I am grateful for the proactive response and teamwork shown today. Situations like this are difficult for everyone involved, but through the dedication of all the agencies working together, we are moving toward a safer and healthier outcome for both the residents and the animals.

The next steps will include continued coordination among the Town, law enforcement, Monroe County Public Health, and the Humane Society as investigations proceed and appropriate enforcement actions are pursued in court.”
