UPDATE: Rochester police have now named the man they shot last night.
They say 48-year-old Lavar McKnight was pistol-whipping a man on Weyl Street, off Joseph Avenue.
He then allegedly ignored several orders to drop the gun, before an officer shot him in the torso.
Both McKnight and the victim are now out of the hospital.
McKnight faces 3 gun crimes.
No officers were hurt.

Rochester police say an officer was forced to shoot someone last night.
They say officers were probing a stolen car chase on Weyl Street, when one man shot another on Weyl Street, off Joseph Avenue.
One officer then shot the suspect.
RPD Captain Greg Bello says, based on what they know so far, the officer was justified in opening fire.
Both men were taken to Strong Hospital and are expected to recover.
No officers were hurt, and a handgun was recovered at the scene.
So far, there are no charges.
