A Rochester man guilty of of beating his girlfriend to death last summer in front of her 9-year-old daughter will serve 17 years to life in prison.
49-year-old Walter Balkum Junior was convicted in April of first-degree manslaughter and assault in the death of Melikah Bruner.
Balkum apologized to the family before the sentence.
He had four prior felony convictions.
