9 Indicted in Robert Brooks Prison Beating Death

Nine corrections officers have been indicted in the death of prison inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility.

Eight pleaded not guilty in Utica to charges of second degree murder or manslaughter.

The five accused of murder were granted $100,000 bail; those charged only with manslaughter were granted $25,000 bail.

One charged with evidence tampering was released on his own recognizance.

One name on the indictment was redacted.

Governor Hochul called the attack on Robert Brooks sickening and says those responsible for Brooks' beating death must be held accountable.

A pretrial conference is set for March 31
