NY Mail Voting Law Upheld

A new state law making it easier to vote by mail will remain in effect.

A federal court has shot down a Republican challenge to the New York Early Mail Voter Act, saying it does not violate the state Constitution.

It makes permanent the relaxed voting rules that were in effect during the pandemic, allowing voting by mail without an excuse, such as travel or illness.

State lawmakers passed the bill at the end of last year's legislative session.

A proposed state constitutional amendment that would have accomplished the same goal was defeated by voters in 2021.
