Both New York State Electric & Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric are getting big financial penalties from state regulators.
The State Public Service Commission has annouced NYSEG will get an $8.7 million revenue cut for failing to meet customer service standards, while RG&E will be docked just under $6 million.
Plus NYSEG is getting an additional $7 million cut for having too many power outages.
Both utilities have faced widespread billing and customer service complaints.
Some progressive advocates continue to call for a municipal takeover of RG&E, despite County Executive Adam Bello announcing he would not support a Rochester a study for forming a public utility.
