The state Assembly has approved a bill that protects New York doctors who prescribe and ship abortion pills to patients in states where abortion is prohibited.
The bill previously cleared the state Senate and now goes to Governor Hochul for her signature.
Under the bill, state courts and law enforcement officials if a state that bans abortion tries to prosecute New York doctors who provide abortion pills via teleconference to patients in those states.
The Assembly vote was 99 to 45.
Medication abortions now account for more than half of all abortions.
