Democrats in the state legislature want to expand the state's child tax credit for working families.
Under the proposed legislation, the credit would increase to $1500 per child, up from $500.
It would take effect in 2024 for the upcoming taxable year. It would benefit couples with children earning less than $50,000, or single parents earning below $25,000.
The credit would be paid quarterly to families to help them pay bills, with a goal of helping reduce poverty.
