New York State Cracking Down on Catalytic Converter Thefts

New York State is cracking down on catalytic converter thefts.

Governor Hochul signed the Catalytic Converter Theft Law, which requires chop shops to keep records of the catalytic converters they've received and report them every 60 days.

In addition to ramping up state police efforts, Hochul also put 20-million-dollars towards anti-theft technology for local enforcement. It comes as catalytic converter thefts across the state have increased by more than 200-percent this year over last, with the numbers quadrupling in New York City.
