The City of Rochester is launching a new initiative to strengthen city neighborhoods.
Ground was broken yesterday for the first six homes for sale to first-time homebuyers with household incomes below 80 percent of the area's median income.
Plans call for 18 more homes to be built next year. In all, the city hopes to build 100 homes priced no more than $139,000.
Mayor Evans believes the project will help reverse the effects of "redlining" -- which once concentrated Black families in lower-income neighborhoods.
Money from the American Rescue Plan is helping cover the cost.
