Governor Kathy Hochul is signing legislation to remove barriers surrounding loan forgiveness for New York public servants.
Under the measure, nearly three million public employees who work at least 30 hours a week will be eligible for the program after 120 monthly loan payments.
Hochul is launching a campaign to increase enrollment before a federal waiver deadline on October 31st.
Since 2007, the program has helped workers in the public sector receive an average of 61-thousand-dollars in loan forgiveness.
