Governor Hochul says she will allow the state's COVID-19 emergency powers to expire at midnight tonight.
In her announcement this morning in New York City, Hochul says her decision follows the relaxing of a number of mandates, including dropping the mask requirement on public transit last week.
Hochul has been under fire from state Republicans for keeping the state of emergency in effect.
They point to a COVID testing contract awarded to a Hochul campaign donor, without competitive bidding.
The state of emergency had been extended on a month-by-month basis.
