State Lawmakers Approve New Laws Involving Guns and Gun Violence

State lawmakers have approved new laws involving guns and gun violence.

One measure raises the age to 21 to buy semi-automatic rifles. And buyers would need a license, similar to the license already required for handguns.

And another expands the Red Flag law by expanding those who can file Extreme Risk Protection Orders to include health care professionals. And police and prosecutors would be required to file when there is credible information of a person's risk to themselves or others.

Under another bill, “making a threat of mass harm” becomes a new crime. And it will be illegal to sell bullet-resistant vests to people who don't work in law enforcement.
