The Rochester city school board has approved the district's $983 million budget.
It includes money for more social workers, a new science curriculum, support for students with disabilities, and more money to upgrade meal options.
To balance the budget, the district is eliminating vacant jobs and cutting travel and other expenses.
The vote was 4 to 3, with the "no" votes coming from board members Camille Simmons, Amy Maloy, and Beatriz LeBron.
The Rochester City Council will have to approve the budget, too, at a meeting later this month.
