The City of Rochester and the Village of Newark will each get $10 million from the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative.
Newark will use its money to renovate and upgrade its downtown area around the Erie Canal...while Rochester will use its money to upgrade the rundown corner of Main Street and North Clinton Avenue.
Mayor-elect Malik Evans says the $10 million will be used to match with private sector developers to rebuild that rundown corner into a commercial and residential area like the developments that have taken place around it.
He says dealing with blight in Rochester will be a big part of his administration beginning in January.
