Rochester Police Officer Denny Wright has been named the Governor's Police Officer of the Year and will receive the award in Washington, D.C.
Governor Kathy Hochul's office says the award recognizes "exceptional valor and courage in the face of grave danger to themselves and residents of the communities they serve to protect,"
Wright was responding to a call on Peck Street two years ago when he was attacked by a knife-wielding man.
He was stabbed several times and permanently blinded.
The man accused of stabbing Wright, Keith Williams, is expected back in court this month.
