Rochester's new Interim Police Chief says you won't see too many changes once he takes over from Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan next week, because the path to reform has already been laid out for the RPD over the past year.
Deputy Chief of Operations David Smith says the department has good people in place and knows where it wants to go. Under Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan the department initiated changes in the way it handles the use of force and deals with the public. Smith says he wants to get back to the feeling within the department in the 1990s...when it was nationally known for progressive reform.
Asked about officer Morale after three leadership changes in a year, Smith said officers continue to go out, take guns and violent people off the street, and do good work.
