Teens Decide Smoking Isn't Cool Anymore

Smoking by high school kids in New York is at an all-time low.

The state Department of Health says fewer than three percent of people in that age group now smoke cigarettes.

That's a significant drop from 2000 when the youth smoking rate was just over 27-percent.

Since then, the state has taken several steps to limit tobacco use among young people, including banning the sale of tobacco in pharmacies and increasing the minimum age to legally buy tobacco and vaping products.
