Federal prosecutors say two people have pleaded guilty to charges of rioting following the violent protests just over a year ago in Rochester.
Shakell Sanks and Mackenzie Drechsler both made their pleas in federal court today. The judge ordered Drechsler held until sentencing, saying she's a danger to the community based on her conduct durign the protests.
The Rochester protests last May were in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Sanks and Dreschler were accused of lighting fabric on fire and stuffing it into the gas tank of a parked car belonging to the Rochester Crisis Intervention Team. The car was destroyed by fire. Drechsler was also accused of setting fire to another car belonging to the New York State Attorney General's Office. That car was also destroyed. Drechsler also participated in breaking glass and looting that took place as the demonstration turned violent.
Drechsler will be sentenced on August 9th, while Sanks is scheduled to be sentenced on August 23rd.
