Trillium IT Specialist Pleads Guilty to Defrauding Employees

A man who worked as an IT specialist at Trillium Health in Rochester has admitted to accessing personal information of other Trillium employees.

Ameer Elashmawy pleaded guilty to fraud and will be sentenced in July.

Federal prosecutors say he had administrative access to all employee network accounts while they used their computers at work.

He used that access to search employees’ email and social media accounts without their knowledge.

He obtained copies of driver licenses and social security cards and copied personal photos and information from employees’ personal electronic devices.

Trillium has since spent more than $100,000 to protect its affected employees.
