Rochester City Council Calls for Firing of Top City Attorney

The Rochester City Council late Thursday afternoon called for the firing of the city's top lawyer, Corporation Counsel Tim Curtin.

Council President Loretta Scott says Curtin has demonstrated a pattern of obstructing City Council and the Police Accountability Board in several recent matters, including the death of Daniel Prude and the PAB's investigation of police department procedures.

Firing the Corporation Counsel would be up to Mayor Lovely Warren. A city spokesman said on behalf of the mayor: “Mr. Curtin has already been seriously reprimanded and suspended without pay for a month."

Council members also said at a news conference that they've had a Memorandum of Understanding drafted for the Police Accountability Board, guaranteeing the PAB will get the materials they need to conduct their investigations.

Council says it will also, for the first time, hire an independent legal counsel separate from City Hall.
