Protestors Close East Ave. Wegmans

Shoppers were trapped for a time inside the East Avenue Wegmans.

Protesters marking the first anniversary of the city police encounter with Daniel Prude marched there this morning, and the store went on lockdown.

A caller to the Bob Lonsberry show said the protesters were shouting at people in cars, and shoppers inside were angry they couldn't leave.

Wegmans says all the shoppers are now out, but the store remains on lockdown.

They released a statement, saying, “Our East Ave. store is currently closed due to protest activity taking place outside of the store. At this time, no customers remain in the store, and the doors will remain closed. Our number one priority is the safety of our employees and customers.“
