Some patients being discharged from Strong Memorial Hospital will be getting the chance to receive the COVID-19 vaccine before they leave the hospital.
University of Rochester Medical Center says is has already begun offering the vaccine to some at-risk patients as part of a New York State initiative.
The state has set aside a portion of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine for hospitals.
Priority will be given to long-term care residents and those 65 years or older first, followed by those ages 18-64 with one or more of the currently eligible comorbidities or underlying conditions.
The program will be rolled out in other UR Medicine affiliate hospitals in the comings weeks.
