New York Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker maintains the state's policies didn't lead to increased coronavirus deaths at nursing homes.
Testifying during a Zoom hearing, Zucker argued coronavirus was brought into nursing homes by staff and other employees, rather than by already infected residents.
This follows criticism tied into the March 25th directive that nursing homes must accept back COVID-19 positive patients, which was later canceled.
Dr. Zucker has faced calls to resign based on a report from the state Attorney General, which suggests the true number of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes is nearly double what has been reported.
