New York closed out the year with some troubling employment trends.
The state topped the list of largest increases in initial unemployment insurance claims of any state for the week ending December 26 and saw three consecutive increases in new initial claims for the last three weeks of the year.
Layoffs shortly before Christmas were concentrated in the accommodations and food services, construction and health care industries.
