UPDATE: The suspect in the shooting of a Rochester Police officer has been identified as 54-year-old James Hunter.
Hunter was wanted for hitting another RPD officer with his car last year.
Hunter is in the hospital for treatment of dog bites from the K9 officer who apprehended him.
The unidentified officer is out of emergency surgery, after being shot once in the neck.
The Rochester police officer wounded in a shooting this morning is said to be alert, stable and is said to be talking at the hospital.
The shooting happened around 8 a.m. on Hague Street, between 490 and Jay Street.
Captain Mark Mura says the officer had gone there for a report of a man with a gun trying to get into a house.
Mura expects the area around the shooting scene to remain closed off most of the day.
Police say at least one individual was taken into custody in the area and was transported to a local
The officer is a nearly 15-year-vet and was said to have been wounded in the neck area. It's not known if he fired back at the shooter.
Many officers have gathered at Strong hospital.
