State Assemblyman Demond Meeks was among more than a dozen people arrested Friday night as they tried to stop an eviction on Glasgow Street. Members of the Rochester Housing Justice Alliance rallied all day outside the apartment of Cilanda Florence-Yarde...whose family was being evicted. They had withheld their rent because they said the landlord had not fixed code violation issues in the apartment.
The landlord says that's not true, and he's done everything he could to fix the problems.
The demonstrators tried to physically block police from carrying out the eviction order, and 15 of them including the assemblyman were arrested. All are charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration.
