Governor Cuomo gave an update on the coronavirus crisis in the state today.
He says he won't rule out a possible second coronavirus shutdown next month, as New Yorkers deal with rising COVID cases in the midst of a vaccine rollout. He says New York is in a footrace with the vaccine rollout, but adds while more shipments of the vaccine continue to arrive, there are still questions about long-term supply and distribution.
He says the state will set up regional vaccination hubs led by local hospital systems which will administer the vaccines in phases.
The first phase of the vaccine rollout is happening now, with the focus on medical workers and nursing home staff and residents.
Cuomo says he anticipates phase two to start in late January with the vaccination of essential workers and those with serious underlying health conditions.
Governor Cuomo also says he is concerned about the rising COVID positivity rate and hospitalization rate in our region, the Finger Lakes Region. The Finger Lakes positivity rate is the highest in the state at 8.21 percent.
