Monroe County Executive Adam Bello says he will veto amendments that were approved as part of the County Legislature's new $1.2 billion budget.
One amendment reverses proposed changes to staff in the county Board of Elections.
And the other creates a $2.5 million “community contingency fund” that members of the legislature could tap for different community needs and programs.
Bello says this is unacceptable and the wrong way of running county government. And he called the contingency fund nothing more than a "slush fund" county legislators would use for their own "pet projects."
Monroe County Board of Elections Commissioner Jackie Ortiz says she will not abide by a county budget amendment that reverses personnel changes at her office.
She says state law gives her discretion to make those changes, and she says the county amendment is unlawful.
She says the changes to the payroll and staffing she wanted for the coming year had already been approved, before the amendment was passed.
The budget was passed unanimously Tuesday night.
