Rochester City Council Vice President Willie Lightfoot is urging Governor Cuomo to reconsider the closure of barbershops and beauty salons in the Orange Zone.
Lightfoot also is the president of an association of barbers and cosmetologists and owns a unisex shop.
In his letter to the governor, Lightfoot says he has worked with local shops to help them comply with safety guidelines and get safety equipment.
He says there has been no viral spread linked to local barber shops or beauty salons.
And he says the shutdowns disproportionately affect businesses in black and brown communities.
