Election 2020: Katko Declared Winner in 24th Congressional Race

Congressman John Katko is heading back to Capitol Hill in January.

The Republican incumbent was able to build enough of a gap over Democrat Dana Balter before the counting of absentee ballots to be declared the winner.

It's the second time Katko has held off a challenge from Balter in the 24th Congressional District.

Balter was far behind on Election Day and said she wouldn't concede until all votes were counted.

24th Congressional District - The district includes Onondaga, Cayuga, and Wayne Counties and the western portion of Oswego County.

GOP incumbent John Katko narrowly beat Democratic challenger Dana Balter in 2018.

Balter has been better funded this time, as this race is on the national radar.

Katko was first elected in 2014. He beat Colleen Deacon in 2016, 60 percent to 39 percent.

Prior to running for office he was a federal prosecutor.
