NY Adds Juneteenth Holiday

New York is adding Juneteenth to its calendar of official holidays.

The date of June 19th marks the end of slavery.

It gained renewed attention this year amid nationwide protests over police brutality.

Governor Cuomo says it's a time to "celebrate freedom, recognize achievements of the Black community, and reflect on injustices that remain."

He signed legislation yesterday that was passed by the Legislature in July.
