The Canandaigua Town Board has passed a non-binding resolution calling for federal authorities to consider changing the name of Squaw Island in Canandaigua Lake.
The vote was unanimous.
Critics of the name say it is offensive to Native Americans.
Any decision on a name change is up to the U.S. Geological Survey.
