The Rochester area's COVID-19 unemployment rate is nearly ten percent according to the latest numbers from the New York State Department of Labor. The Monroe County rate is more than ten percent.
That's more than 30,000 additional people out of a job since the economic downturn started with the coronavirus lockdown. Those figures are for the month of August.
The number of unemployed in New York State increased by more than a million from August of 2019 to August of 2020.
