An Albany man who was originally stopped by Rochester Police because they thought he might be an arson suspect has ended up charged with slashing ten tires on Monroe County Sheriff's Office patrol cars.
Daniel Prouty was arrested on Friday as he walked out of court after dealing with previous charges of unlawful assembly from the protests of September sixth, in which three U-Haul trucks were set on fire at a State Street business. The Arson Task Force originally thought the 26-year-old Prouty might be a suspect in setting those fires. But during the investigation, they found he had a police-style body camera. Checking the video on that camera, they found he had nothing to do with the fires...but could be seen slashing the tires of the patrol cars.
He's now charged with criminal mischief.
