Monroe County, NYS Retain Upper Hand in COVID-19 Battle

Monroe County health officials are reporting no new COVID-19 deaths over the weekend.

The total number in the county since the start of the pandemic held steady at 292.

There were 17 new confirmed cases since Saturday. Twelve of those are in people under 40.

The county has confirmed more than 5,200 cases since March.

Meanwhile, new data shows New York State still has the upper hand in the battle against coronavirus.

Health officials a record-high 100,000 test results were received Saturday, and the statewide infection rate remained below one percent.

The rate has been below 1% for more than three weeks.

The number of New York State residents hospitalized for treatment of the virus is at its lowest level since March 16th.

Eight New Yorkers died Saturday.

With flu season about to start, the state health department will announce regulations today directing that all deaths involving respiratory illnesses need to be tested for COVID-19 and for the flu.
