Governor Cuomo has ordered the State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to assist in the investigation of an assault against a transgender man in Rochester.
Cuomo said in a statement that he's outraged by the report of an assault against the 30-year-old black transgender man. He says New York won't tolerate it, and State Police will provide any and all resources needed to bring the assailants to justice. Cuomo says anti-transgender violence is an epidemic in the U.S. and New Yorkers should not have to fear for their safety based on who they are.
The assault took place last week at Denver Street and Parsells Avenue. There were two victims, including the more seriously injured 30-year-old, and police are looking for a pair of suspects. They allegedly began a verbal altercation with the victims over sexual orientation that turned into violence. The RPD is investigating the incident has a hate crime.
