Convicted Man Lies About Military Record

A man who was convicted in the Chinappi's Firearms Supply break-in has pleaded guilty to lying about being a Purple Heart recipient in order to get a lighter sentence.

Federal prosecutors say Marcos Guzman of Rochester lied about serving in the National Guard, being deployed to Iraq for 18 months and being awarded two Purple Hearts after saving another soldier's life. The certificates he showed to the U.S. Probation Office were fake.

Guzman was covicted in April of 2019 in the Chinappi's Firearms burglary in Spencerport. He'll be sentenced for both crimes next month.
