Governor Andrew Cuomo says New York has definitely "flattened the curve" of coronavirus infection rates, but he also says we're not at halftime yet and we don't know how the game will turn out.
People are still getting sick and going to the hospital, with more than 780 dying over the past 24 hours. More than 8,600 people have died statewide since the pandemic began.
At his daily briefing, the governor said rates of hospital admissions and especially the intubation of critically-ill patients are all declining statewide. He says quick response appears to be slowing the spread of the disease from New York City to Long Island, the New York City suburbs and to Upstate.
Cuomo quoted Winston Churchill in saying "this is the end of the beginning." He said we have to make sure we use data and not politics to decide when to start business and schools again and to reopen the economy.
