Another person has been arrested in the investigation of a midwife in Yates County who was not licensed to practice.
State Police say Melissa Carman is charged with unauthorized practice of a profession and hindering prosecution.
Carman is accused of helping Elizabeth Catlin with her illegal midwife practice, in and around Penn Yan.
Authorities say she discussed private medical issues of maternity patients, gave advice, and offered to assist in birth and prenatal appointments.
Catlin pleaded not guilty last month to dozens of criminal charges -- including negligent homicide -- following an investigation into the death of a baby in 2018.
She is due back in court in April.
